(b Vukovar, Sept 26, 1900; d Budapest, Feb 15, 1979). Hungarian pianist and composer . After studying the piano at the National Conservatory (from 1904) with István Tompa and then in Vienna (1916–17) with Emil Sauer , at the age of 17 she embarked on an international performing career with concerts in Berlin, Rome, Vienna and Scandinavia. From the early 1920s she lived in Berlin, studying the piano with Ferruccio Busoni and composition with Franz Schreker , for whom she worked for two years as an assistant professor at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik. For the next 20 years she toured extensively in Europe and beyond. She often included her own compositions in her programmes and in 1926 (Paris), 1935, 1938 and 1943 (Budapest) she gave concerts exclusively of her own music. She ceased performing after World War II and from 1947 until her retirement was professor of piano at the Budapest Academy of Music. She won several awards for her achievements....
