- Christine Ballman
(b Leuze, July 25, 1925; d April 13, 2000). Belgian composer and pianist. She studied at the Brussels Conservatory, gained in addition the licentiate diploma of the RAM, London, and received several international awards, both for piano, in the Barcelona competition, and for composition, in the Lutèce (France) and Viotti (Italy) competitions. Uyttenhove’s works belong within a post-Fauré or medieval-inspired tradition, but her non-serial musical language, which she described as ‘intemporel’, is enhanced through the use of resolutely modern harmonies.
