Vito-Delvaux, Berthe dilocked

  • Christine Ballman

(b Angleur, May 17, 1915; d April 2, 2005). Belgian composer. After studying at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique in Liège, she was taught composition by Léon Jongen in Brussels and won the Prix de Rome (1943). She composed in all musical genres, with a preference for opera and oratorio; although interested in contemporary music, in her own works she remained faithful to her traditional musical upbringing, rejecting serialism and atonality. In 1962 she was awarded the Grétry prize for the corpus of her operatic works.
