(b Fort Leonard Wood, MO, May 4, 1955). American musicologist. She studied music and religious studies at Beloit College (BA 1977) and musicology with Glenn Watkins at the University of Michigan (MA 1979, PhD 1985). At Middlebury College she was assistant professor of music from 1985 until 1991, when she was appointed associate professor of music, and an affiliate in women’s studies, at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Named professor of music in 1997, Cook has served administratively in several capacities, including School of Music Director of Graduate Studies (1999–2005), Arts Institute Executive Director (2005–7), and the Graduate School’s Associate Dean for Arts and Humanities (2007–). In 2003, she was the Fulbright Senior Distinguished Professor and The Walt Whitman Chair in American Culture at the University of Nijmegen, Netherlands.
