(b Wellington, KS, Oct 14, 1891; d Traverse City, MI, April 18, 1966). American music educator. He attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas (1906–7) and the Wichita College of Music (1907–8), and played viola in the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (1909–14). He was director of the College of Music in Wichita Falls, Texas (1915–17) and taught at the Metropolitan School of Music in Chicago (1917–18) and in the public schools of Rochester, New York (1918–20), and Richmond, Indiana (1920–24). He was music supervisor in Ann Arbor, Michigan (1924–7) and served on the faculty at the University of Michigan (1924–61). Maddy organized the National High School Orchestra (1926) and, with Thaddeus P.
