McCormick, David Clement

(b Destrehan, LA, Aug 17, 1930). American tuba player, educator, and administrator. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University (BME 1951) and Northwestern University (MMus 1952, PhD 1970) and served in the US Army Band (1952–5). His academic career included appointments at Manchester College, Indiana, J. Sterling Morton High Schools, Illinois, and Southeastern Louisiana University, where he was music department head, assistant vice president for academic affairs, and executive assistant to the president. He served as vice president for academic and research affairs and acting president of the University of Louisiana System and then dean and CEO of the University of South Florida Fort Myers Campus, building it into Florida Gulf Coast University. In 1992–3 he was a visiting scholar in the Center for Studies in Higher Education, University of California, Berkeley.
