(b Valentine, NE, May 24, 1929). American music educator. She earned degrees in piano performance from Manhattanville College (BM 1950) and in music education from Columbia University Teachers College (MA 1952) and the University of Michigan (EdD 1959). She taught in the public schools of Florida (1953–4) and Michigan (1954–8), and at the University of Colorado at Boulder (1959–70) and Georgia State University (1970–95). She held several visiting professorships, and was vice-president of the College Music Society (1971–9) and on the editorial committees of the Journal of Research in Music Education, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, and Music Educators Journal. She was active throughout the United States and internationally as a clinician, lecturer, and choral conductor.
