(b Redondo Beach, CA, June 7, 1927; d April 3, 2014). American conductor and singer. He began singing in a Catholic boys choir at age 10 and later became a charter member of the Roger Wagner Chorale (1946) and later the Los Angeles Master Chorale (1965). From 1953–77 he served as assistant conductor to Roger Wagner, his lifelong mentor and friend. In 1991 he became music director of the Master Chorale, a post he held for 10 years. Salamunovich obtained degrees from Los Angeles City College (AM 1948) and Mount St. Mary’s College (BM 1961). He taught at Mount St. Mary’s College (1957–76) and Loyola University Los Angeles (1964–73), and was director of choral activities at Loyola Marymount University (1973–91).
