Lovelace, Austin Colelocked

(b Rutherfordton, NC, March 26, 1919; d Denver, April 25, 2010). American hymnist, organist, choral conductor, composer, and teacher. Introduced to the organ in his teens, Lovelace pursued a career in church music after completing undergraduate study at High Point College in North Carolina. He earned MSM and DSM degrees at Union Theological Seminary, New York City. He served churches in Lincoln, NE, as well as Charlotte and Greensboro, NC, in his early career; his subsequent major positions were as minister of music at First Methodist, Evanston, IL (1952–62); Christ Church Methodist, New York City (1962–4); Montview Boulevard Presbyterian, Denver (1964–70); Lovers Lane Methodist, Dallas (1970–77); and Wellshire Presbyterian, Denver (1977–86). He taught at the University of Nebraska, Queens College in Charlotte, Davidson College, Garrett Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary, Temple Buell College, and the Iliff School of Theology....
