(b Cleveland, Nov 22, 1918; d New York, NY, February 8, 2012). American music educator. He received degrees in music education from Ohio Northern University (BS 1940), Western Reserve University (MA 1951), and Teachers College, Columbia University (EdD 1956). He was supervisor/director of music in the public schools of Dola (1940–2) and Akron (1959–63), Ohio and Detroit (1963–69); he also taught instrumental music in Euclid (1942, 1946, interrupted by military service in World War II) and Cleveland Heights (1946–59), Ohio. He taught at Indiana University (1969–89, chair of music education 1969–84). He was president of the American String Teachers Association (1962–4), the North Central Division of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) (1972–4), and the national MENC (1976–8). In 1964 he (with John Kendall and Clifford Cook) brought Suzuki to the MENC convention in Philadelphia.
