American horn player. Bacon began playing piano at age four, trumpet at age 11, and the horn at age 14. His teachers included Max Pottag, Frank Brouk, Rudy Macciochi, Marvin Howe, verne Reynolds, Ray Still (chamber music), and Robert McDowell (piano). He has served as first horn of the Chicago Civic Orchestra (1964–6) and the Syracuse SO (1966–8), assistant principal and acting principal of the Detroit SO (1968–73), solo horn of the Berlin RS (1975–8), and principal of the Houston SO (1978–88), Houston Grand Opera (1990-92), and the Houston Ballet Orchestra (2000–09). Exploring other musical expressions, Bacon was a member from 1969 to 1974 of Metamorphosis, a rock group comprised of Detroit SO musicians.
