Kraut, Harry (John)

(b Brooklyn, NY, April 11, 1933; d Key West, FL, Dec 11, 2007). American music administrator. He was educated at Harvard College and Harvard Business School, where he was student manager of the Harvard Glee Club. In 1958 he joined the administrative staff of the Boston SO, and during his time there managed a pioneering system of syndicating concert tapes to radio and television broadcasters, in addition to other duties. He also served as assistant and then principal (from 1963) administrator of the Berkshire Music Center, the orchestra’s summer school at Tanglewood. In 1971 he became the administrative head of Leonard Bernstein’s firm, Amberson Enterprises, and executive producer of all the Bernstein television programs; he was also involved as business manager with Bernstein’s recordings, concerts, and publications. Kraut was trustee of the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, and served as president of the Brooklyn Boys’ Choir School, the Cambridge (Massachusetts) Society for Early Music, and the Harvard Glee Club Foundation....
