She earned degrees from Northwestern University and University of Texas at Austin, where she studied with Kathleen Kaun and Paul Cohen, respectively. In 2007, she began working with voice teacher Rita Shane. Violetta Valery is a signature role for her, and she has portrayed the heroine of Verdi’s La traviata more than 65 times at opera houses worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu. An accomplished Mozartean, Dunleavy has won acclaim for her performances in Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Konstanze), Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi), Le nozze di Figaro (Countess Almaviva), Lucio Silla (Giunia), and Mitridate (Aspasia). She gave more than 80 performances as the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, and is the third soprano to have sung both that role and Pamina at the Metropolitan Opera.
