(b New York, Jan 25, 1981). American singer, songwriter, and pianist. She began piano studies at age seven and has been a songwriter since her teenage years, when she attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan. Discovered by an agent at 14, her rise to fame was meteoric. She adopted the stage name Alicia Keys and eventually found an artistic match with Clive Davis’s J Records in 2000, working with producer Kerry “Krucial” Brothers. Here Keys found a team dedicated to cultivating her individual sound, a fusion of hip-hop, rhythm & blues, soul, and jazz.

Keys’ sound is essential to her success, and her individuality as a songstress and writer has proven an advantage, placing her in the ranks of female musical artists such as Beyoncé Knowles and Missy Elliott, with whom she toured in 2004.
