(b London, England, July 11, 1949). Canadian classical guitarist of English birth. After guitar studies with Eli Kassner as a teenager, she graduated from the University of Toronto in 1972, and then received further instruction from Alexandre Lagoya in Paris (1972–4). Boyd is well known as a classical-pop crossover artist. Her New York recital debut was at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1975, which inaugurated an international career as a concert artist, but she has also toured with folk-rock singers Gordon Lightfoot and Tracy Chapman. Her nearly 30 recordings show a similar diversity. Traditional classical repertoire is featured on The Guitar (1974; her first recording), Miniatures for Guitar (1977), and Baroque Favorites (1998, with Sir Andrew Davis and the English Chamber Orchestra), while Persona (1986) features appearances by rock guitarists Eric Clapton and David Gilmour, and Camino Latino/Latin Journey (2002...
