(b Houston, TX, Sept 12, 1961). American composer and pianist. Cox studied piano with lili Kraus at Texas Christian University (BM 1984) and composition with harvey Sollberger , donald Erb , john Eaton , and eugene O’brien at Indiana University (MM 1988, DMA 1992), where she also minored in theory and electronic and computer music. She also studied composition with bernard Rands and jacob Druckman at the Aspen Music Festival (1990) and john Harbison at Tanglewood (1992). Before joining the music department at the University of California at Berkeley in 1991, where she holds the Jerry and Evelyn Chamber Chair in music, she taught at DePauw University (1990–1). As a pianist, Cox both performs and records her own pieces.
