(b San Diego, CA, Oct 27, 1920). American actress and singer. She first appeared on the vaudeville stage at the age of three, billed as Baby Nanette, and took time off from performing to study dance in Southern California, voice at the Juilliard School of Music, and acting at the Max Reinhardt School of Theatre. She made her Broadway debut in the revue Meet the People (1940), which was followed by supporting and replacement roles in the musicals Let’s Face It! (1941), By Jupiter (1943), My Dear Public (1943), Jackpot (1944), and Bloomer Girl (1945). Fabray’s first substantial role was playing New Jersey housewife Sara Longstreet in High Button Shoes (1947).
