(b Kansas City, MO, Jan 4, 1922). American flutist and tenor and alto saxophonist. He grew up in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and in Washington, DC. Having first learned to play alto saxophone, under the strong influence of Lester Young he changed to the tenor instrument.
