(b Philadelphia, July 3, 1947). American violinist and leader. He played piano initially but changed to violin around the age of eight. At West Virginia University (BME 1969) he studied music education, piano, and violin, and during his final year he was inspired by recordings by Ray Nance and Michael White (i) to begin improvising and to take up jazz.
