(b Buffalo, NY, Sept 2, 1963). American drummer. She grew up in Binghamton, New York, and studied music at the local SUNY campus (BA 1986) and performed locally with Slam Stewart (1981–6), then a professor at SUNY. She then undertook graduate work in jazz studies at New York University, gaining an MA in 1988 and continuing as a doctoral candidate, and received private tuition from Mel Lewis, Adam Nussbaum, and Jeff Hamilton. From 1987 until the venue closed in the early 1990s she directed Saturday jam sessions at the Village Gate. Also in 1987 she began collaborating with Peter Appleyard, with whom she has led a variety of small groups, and co-founded a quartet with the saxophonist John Mastrioanni which recorded in 1989.
