Novelty aerophone invented by Louis Julien Jaulin (French patent, 31 Dec 1861) intended as an easy-to-play substitute for the oboe or cor anglais. The harmonicor’s wooden body and bell resemble those of an oboe, but its sound arises from 25 or more harmonica-type free reeds operated by button keys in chromatic arrangement. Metal tubing, separate from the wooden body but connected to it, holds the reeds and their piston-like valves; the player blows into a mouthpiece at the end of the tube. A related model, the harmonietrompe, imitates the trumpet....
