Drum of the Luluwa people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The two heads are nailed to the wooden body, which narrows in the middle and has three or four handles at the waist. The body is always beautifully decorated with geometrical incisions. The neck of a calabash is inserted into a hole in the middle of the body; the outer end of the neck is covered by a thin membrane (mirliton). The heads are struck by the hands. ...
