A woodwind instrument listed in the 1589 inventory of the Württemberg Hofkapelle. Antoine Cousseau, a native of Poitiers and earlier active as a cornetto player in Stuttgart and Munich, was named as the court maker of these, as well as a ‘mouth organ’ and four rackets. Five sizes of collone were mentioned: small descant, descant (a 4th lower), alto, tenor (with keys), and bass. Because of the name, Kinsky speculated that the collone might have been columnar recorders. Columnar double-reed woodwinds such as the courtaut and sordun might also fit this description. (G.
