(b Viliacastin, March 11, 1779; d Madrid, Dec 18, 1842). Spanish organ builder. He was the nephew of the organ builder Tomás de Inés Ortega, whose restoration of the two organs in Málaga Cathedral by Julián de la Orden he completed in 1804–5. He succeeded his father-in-law José de Verdalonga as official organ builder to the primatial cathedral of Toledo in 1809, but lost the post in 1823 on account of liberal opinions he had expressed in 1820. He repaired the organ in the church of S Andrés, Toledo, in 1818. He subsequently moved to Madrid, where he built an organ for the Carmelite monastery in 1831–2. He was made official organ builder to the royal chapel in 1834, succeeding José Marigómez de Echevarría; that he might earlier have been influenced by the Jordi Bosch organ in the chapel is suggested by elements of his organ for the cathedral of Ávila (...
