Lute of Thailand. It has an ovoid resonating box shaped somewhat like a tortoise shell (whence the instrument derives its name), about 44 cm long, 40 cm wide and 7 cm deep; a narrow, fretted neck up to 138 cm long curving backwards at the top; and four strings (traditionally gut, nowadays commonly silk or nylon) in two courses affixed to lateral pegs.
