- Hans Klotz
(b Brandenburg, May 8, 1907; d Cologne, Feb 27, 1978). German organ builder. He was trained by the firm of Sauer in Frankfurt an der Oder and worked for them in Cologne from 1928. He passed his master’s examination in 1934. In 1945 he set up his own business in Cologne under the name Orgelbauwerkstätten Willi Peter, and formed a partnership in 1977 with Georg Eglseder (b Kafferding, 17 Nov 1930) and Helmut Klöpping (b Schwelm, 14 June 1936); both were trained by Peter in Cologne–Eglseder after an apprenticeship as a carpenter, and Klöpping was also taught by Paul Faust and Carl Bürkle in Schwelm. Klöpping’s writings include Geschichte der in den Jahren 1793/95 erbauten Orgel in der Erlöserkirche zu Detmold in Lippe (Schwelm, 1960) and ‘Eine Orgel mit Kegelladen’ in Die Kirche zu Schlangen (Schlangen, 1978).
