Javanese aerophone of two types. One is an oboe and consists of a coil of spirally wound strips of coconut leaf. Two slightly bent pieces of leaf, almost touching each other midway, are inserted into the opening and serve as a double reed. The second type consists of a slightly crooked tube made from a pawpaw stem, open at the top end and closed at the bottom by the beginning of the crown of a leaf. Near the closed end a short lengthwise slit is made in the inside curve of the tube, which, when the tube is blown from the upper end, opens and shuts to produce a sound....
