End-blown flute of Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, and adjoining regions. It is open at both ends and has six fingerholes; its range is up to two chromatic octaves, quiet in the lower register, shrill in the upper. The wooden (e.g. ash, barberry, maple, walnut; sometimes horn) body tapers at the upper end and flares slightly at the lower, and is usually decorated with turnings and sometimes with metallic thread.
