Psaltery of Armenia. The trapezoidal soundbox, made from apricot or walnut wood, is 4 to 6 cm deep, 95 to 100 cm long along the longest side, and 38 to 40 cm wide. The bridge is placed at the right side of the instrument. The 72 strings are tuned by half-steps in triple courses and are tuned by pegs at the left side of the instrument. It is played on the lap. The strings are made of gut or nylon and are plucked with tortoiseshell plectra held on the index fingers by circular metal bands....
