Slit drum chime of West Malaysia. Six bamboo or wooden slit drums, each about 60 cm long, are suspended horizontally by rattan strings in a rectangular wooden frame; another slit drum is suspended perpendicularly from a side-wing of the frame. The chime is struck with a small, thick wooden beater and is used to drive away birds during harvests, for public proclamations, and for purely musical purposes in Malay ensembles....
