(b Parma, Italy, c1756; d Parma, Italy, May 18, 1816). Italian violin maker. He mostly made violins on a personal model, with rounded bouts, long waists, vertical f-holes, and moderately full arching. The edging is delicate but pronounced and neatly rounded, as are the scrolls’ eyes. His wood is usually of local origin, mostly with an irregular curl. His varnish is usually a golden orange-brown of very good texture. Mori Costa’s instruments can be quite good in tone. In addition to his usual printed label, ‘Felix Mori Costa/Fecit Parmae/anno 18—’, they are often signed on one of the interior ribs....
