Drone chordophone (‘plucked drum’) of Andhra, South India. It is similar to the tuntune of Maharashtra: the body is a hollow, tapering cylinder (often metal) whose lower end is covered with skin; a steel string passes up through the body from the centre of the skin and is secured to a tuning-peg inserted through the top of a neck affixed to the side of the body. The instrument is plucked by the finger to accompany vocal music, and its name indicates its use by soothsayers....
