(b Vicenza, Italy, Nov 15, 1781; d Venice, Italy, Oct 29, 1853). Italian violin maker. He was a pupil of his father, Gaetano (b Vicenza, c1760; d Vicenza, after 1830), working primarily in Vicenza, and moving to Venice only in later years. His violins are inspired by the Amati model but are often more fully curved and arched so as to be reminiscent of the larger models of Andrea Guarneri. Most of his work is varnished a golden yellow-brown. His brother Gaetano worked only in Vicenza and in a similar style. His varnish is somewhat darker than Giacinto’s and ranges from red to orange-red....
