Double Slide Controller [DSC]locked

Electronic controller created in 2009 by the Buffalo State College music professor, composer, and electronic music technologist José Tomás Henriques (b Vila Franca de Xira, Portugal, 1963). It is played like a slide trombone and has two independent slides, one for each hand, using two 50-cm-long position strips. The hand controllers, on rollers, move in three dimensions and capture data by means of a two-axis accelerometer and a gyroscope. Each also employs a force sensor resistor and a joystick, both controlled by the thumb, and 13 on-off buttons operated by the fingers. The mouthpiece incorporates an air-pressure detector for tone loudness and brightness, a force sensor at the rim for lip pressure and vibrato detection, and an optional tiny, variable-speed vibration motor that provides intonation feedback to the player: a perfectly tuned note causes no vibration, but the more a note is out of tune, the more vibration occurs. Two sensor interfaces together receive data from 18 analogue sensors and 26 digital switches within the instrument, the data then being sent to a computer running Max/MSP (Maximum Signal Processing). Information can be sent to a MIDI hardware synthesizer or playback module or to a real-time software synthesis computer....
