Trapezoidal box zither (psaltery) of the Mari and Chuvash peoples of the Volga-Ural region of Russia. It is probably related to the Russian gusli and the Finnish kantele. It has 17 to 22 strings, plucked with the fingers, and is one of the most widespread traditional instruments of the region.
