(b Genoa, April 5, 1933). Italian soprano. She made her début in 1954 at Sestri Levante. In 1955 she sang in the stage première of Milhaud’s David at La Scala and made her Glyndebourne début as Nannetta. In 1957 she created Sister Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites) at La Scala and sang Fiorilla (Il turco in Italia) and Elisetta (Il matrimonio segreto) with the Piccola Scala in Edinburgh. She made her American début in 1958 at San Francisco, singing Rosina, Musetta and Susanna. Returning to Glyndebourne, she sang Adina (1961) and the Italian Soprano in Capriccio (1973). She also appeared in Vienna, Munich and Paris. A spirited comic actress with a keen, expressive voice, she excelled in such roles as Vespina (L’infedeltà delusa), which she sang at Wexford (1969) and the Holland Festival (1970...
