Opera in three acts by George Frideric Handel to an anonymous libretto adapted from Domenico Lalli’s L’amor tirannico, o Zenobia (1710, Venice) as revised for Florence (1712); London, King’s Theatre, 27 April 1720.
Radamisto was Handel’s first opera for the newly formed Royal Academy of Music and the Academy’s second production. The wordbook, unusually, bears the composer’s own dedication to King George I. Both the King and the Prince of Wales, recently reconciled after an estrangement of nearly three years, attended the first night and the initial run of ten performances was enthusiastically received.
