Nannini [Costantini], Livia Dorotea

(fl 1695–1726). Italian soprano. She and her sister, the soprano Lucia Vittoria Nannini, were known collectively as ‘Le Polacchine’. There is some confusion about musicians of these names. According to Quadrio there were four singers known as ‘Le Polacchine’. The family, which was Bolognese, seems to have consisted of Giovanni Nannini (father), who was associated with the court of Mantua, Margherita (mother and perhaps a singer), Livia, Lucia (the most active of ‘Le Polacchine’ in the theatre), about whose first names there is some doubt, and a third sister, perhaps called Francesca.
Livia Dorotea Nannini (known after marriage as Costantini), with Lucia Vittoria, was a virtuosa of the Duke of Mantua from 20 December 1695. According to the licence, the sisters were noted for the quality of both their singing and their playing. Both were on close terms with the Marchese G. G. Orsi; the poet P. A.
