(b Orvieto, Nov 9, 1789; d Orvieto, March 16, 1861). Italian bass . He studied in Orvieto, making his déut in 1819 at Terni in Pavesi’s Ser Marcantonio. He appeared in Florence, Siena, Modena, Turin, Venice and at La Scala, where in 1827 he sang in the first performance of Mercadante’s Il montamaro. The same year he created Pasquale in Donizetti’s Olivo e Pasquale at Rome; he sang in the premières of Donizetti’s Alina, regina di Golconda (1828, Genoa) and Pacini’s Il talismano (1829, Milan). In 1832 he created Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore (Teatro della Cannobiana, Milan), and he sang the part again in the 1834 German version (Der Liebestrank) in Berlin, and also in the Vienna première in 1835. In 1840 he sang in the first performance of Mazzucato’s I corsari at La Scala and, as Mamm’ Agata, in the first Viennese performance of Donizetti’s ...
