(b Graz, July 26, 1836; d Klagenfurt, 28 or Sept 29, 1903). Austrian soprano . Some sources suggest 1833 or 1828 as her year of birth. She performed in Graz as a child and appeared in Munich (1850), Vienna (1852), Berlin (1854–6), Hamburg (1856–7), Riga (1859) and Berlin again (1863–5). She then made her name at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna in the leading roles in Offenbach’s La belle Hèleéne, La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein and Barbebleue. She became joint manager and created the role of Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus (1874) as well as leading roles in Strauss’s Indigo (1871), Carneval in Rom (1873) and Cagliostro in Wien (1875).
