(b Edinburg, IN, June 4, 1946). American composer and keyboard player. Originally trained as a classical pianist, she then studied in California with electronic music pioneers Max Mathews, John M(acLeod) Chowning and Donald Buchla. Her first important works were created with the Buchla. In the mid-1970s she moved to New York, where she worked with Philip Glass. Employing both acoustic and electronic instruments (Synclavier, Waveframe, IBM- and Macintosh-based software), she produced award-winning music for television, as well as film music and numerous albums. Her style combines popular and classical elements. She has continued to perform as a soloist and with chamber ensembles, playing the piano, the Midi piano and computer-driven synthesizers.
