Pistono, Pieralocked

Pistono, Pieralocked

  • Paola Damiani

(b Bangkok, July 15, 1938). Italian composer. She went to Rome for her musical studies, graduating in piano, choral music and choral conducting; her composition teachers included Barbara Giuranna, Irma Ravinale and Vieri Tosatti. She remained in Rome as a member of the teaching staff at the Conservatorio di S Cecilia, to which she was appointed in 1979. As a composer Pistono does not belong to any particular school or trend; indeed, eclecticism is a hallmark of her style. Her output consists mostly of solo instrumental and chamber works, but she has also written vocal works to texts by the Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō and by the Italian poet Guido Gozzano, from whom she is descended.
