(b ?Danzig [now Gdańsk]; d Leipzig, 1762). German writer, translator, harpsichordist, lutenist and composer. Gottsched studied composition with J.L. Krebs, a pupil of J.S. Bach. In 1735 she married Johann Christoph Gottsched, a leading literary figure of the German Enlightenment who exerted a great influence on German opera and whose house was a centre of musical and intellectual activity.
