Prince, Roland (Don Matthew)free

(b St John’s, Antigua, Aug 27, 1946; d July 15, 2016). Antiguan guitarist. After living in Toronto (mid-1960s), where he played with local musicians, he moved to New York (1969). There he performed with Brother Jack McDuff (1969–70), Billy Mitchell (from 1970), Wynton Kelly, Art Blakey (1971), Stanley Turrentine, and Jimmy Smith (1974) and also led his own trio. Prince toured Europe and Japan and made recordings with Elvin Jones (1974–8, including New Agenda, 1975, Van. 79362) and took part in sessions with Roy Haynes (c1972), James Moody (1975), Frank Foster (1976), and Don Pullen (1976–7).
