(b Rio de Janeiro, Aug 8, 1944). Brazilian composer and pianist. She attended the Federal University of Pernambuco, studying composition (bachelor's degree 1974), then piano with Erno Daniel (ma 1976), and continued her composition studies with Peter Racine Fricker at the University of California at Santa Barbara (PhD in composition, 1985). From 1978 to 1987 she taught at the Federal University of Pernambuco. Since 1987 she has been a full professor of theory and composition at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where she also leads the Grupo Música Nova, dedicated to Brazilian contemporary music.
Rezende participates regularly in contemporary music events in Brazil and abroad. In 1998 her compositional output comprised 36 works for traditional instruments (chamber ensembles, orchestra, solo voices with instrumental accompaniment, a few choral works, piano pieces).
